We wanted to take Isla up to the snow over the holidays, but with Ruby’s ear infection we thought it would be best to stay at sea level.
Today she had the day off from school for the prophet’s birthday, so we headed up the mountain for a few hours of sledding.
We rented a sled on the way up (you can actually rent skis, snowboards, snow bibs, gloves, pretty much anything for really cheap!) and pulled off to the side of the road just before we arrived at the ski resort. It was a perfect day to play in the snow… sunny and warm. We actually could have lived the cliche again and gone to the beach after lunch but I had to get home to go to work.
Our drive back was a bit interesting. The road we needed to take to return our sled was blocked by a big pile of snow. About fifty people and a dozen army men were watching one guy try to shovel the snow off the street so the cars could get through. We took another road and came across a major protest. Apparently a sheik from Saida was trying to visit the snow and the residents of the neighborhood decided they didn’t want him there. We didn’t know that at the time… just that the army was blocking the road and we had to take even another detour to return the sled.

not our picture, but we saw the line of buses… we thought it was just traffic until we saw the news cameras and loads of army gathered in the middle of the road! photo from daily star here.
No worries though, the extra driving gave our two sleepy, sunburned (oops!) girls an extra long nap while we enjoyed the view!

lucky you, i have been dreaming of visiting the snow for years, but every time it all gets awful, and plans get cancelled at the last moment,
Oh man, sorry your snow plans keep falling through! Hopefully one of these days you’ll be able to go! :)
thank you, hope the girls had fun :)
GREAT photos! We haven’t done the snow thing yet, because I expect the girls to last all of ten minutes and then complain about being cold!!
Thanks!
Yeah, I didn’t expect Isla to last very long either… especially because she didn’t have proper snow pants or mittens or anything. But I think we got a good 1.5 hours of play out of her before she was complaining about the cold. It helped that it was a really warm, sunny day. :)
