There are several stages of culture shock that we anticipate going through as we settle into life here in Lebanon. From excitement over all the new sights, sounds, smells and tastes to questioning how in the world people can live like this, to acceptance, and eventually taking on and loving our new home and culture. I think we are still in the first phase – it all feels like a big adventure right now, but that doesn’t stop me from missing some really random – and some not so random – things from home.
Thought I’d share some with you… to help you get a better picture of life here. :)
…wearing clothes – jeans especially – that have been dried in a dryer
…not limiting my grocery shopping to what I can carry on the walk home
…Cheez-its (actually, I did see these at the store the other day, but at nearly $10 a box, couldn’t actually bring myself to buy them…. between C and I they would be gone in a day!)
…Taco Bell – which Caleb says isn’t real Mexican food, but nothing beats a Cheesy Gordita Crunch!
…worshiping in English
…LOST! (okay, I realize that it doesn’t even come back on in the States until January… but I am anticipating missing it a lot!)
…and last but certainly not least, seeing my friends’ baby bumps, chatting on the phone with my mom about nothing, calling my sister to give her a hard time when USC loses… I miss my friends and family!! So… when are you coming to visit??? :)
