Saida, Lebanon

My new favorite place to take visitors is to Saida (Sidon, in English… sound familiar?).  It’s an ancient city right on the sea.  There is an old Crusader castle that you can climb all over, and the souks have such an authentic, Middle Eastern feel… which is hard to find in Beirut.  It’s a must see if you are visiting Lebanon.

And a trip to Saida isn’t complete without visiting the (in)famous trash dump.  It’s quite sad actually… although last time we were there, they were cleaning up all the trash around the sea castle… hopefully it will stay clean!

So, we definitely won’t be swimming at any beaches near Saida, but we’ll definitely go back often to wander through the souks, eat amazing falafel, and play on the ruins.  My new favorite… so when you come to visit… we’ll take you there!  :)

  1. Yeah, there were barely any waves this time! I was kind of bummed… I was looking forward to getting muddy and wet :)
