First day of school traditions

Isla is headed to school in a little less than a month.  Can’t believe my baby girl is old enough to start school already!  Granted, they start super early here, but still….

I’ve seen lots of cute ideas on Pinterest for ways to document your child’s first day of school each year.  But this one is hands down the best I’ve seen.  This family sits down with each of their children at the beginning of each new year and tells the story of a little boy named Adam and what they hope their kids will do when they meet “Adam” in their class.

Baby, if you see a child being left out, or hurt, or teased, a part of your heart will hurt a little. Your daddy and I want you to trust that heart- ache. Your whole life, we want you to notice and trust your heart-ache. That heart ache is called compassion, and it is God’s signal to you to do something. It is God saying, Chase! Wake up! One of my babies is hurting! Do something to help!

Check out her blog post for the full “Talk” she gives her kids.  It’s amazing.  We’re definitely tweaking it for our little girl this year as she starts her new adventure at school.
